Varsity Baseball Starts Season Strong
The St. Patrick Varsity baseball team opened the season on Wednesday with a 10-5 victory over Hillside. Despite the slight rain and cold weather, the Celtics prevailed under the lights at Brophy Field. Sophomore Mike Gonzales scorched the ball, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, five RBI and four runs scored. Anthony Nardella was 2-for-4 with two RBI and scattered five hits while allowing one earned run over six innings with eight strikeouts to steer St. Patrick. Frank Paz closed out the seventh inning to seal the win. The team received a solid defensive effort in the outfield, and Roniel Rosario flashed some fine glovework at shortstop while also swinging the bat well.
